3 Idiots: Based on Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, the movie was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. It’s the story of two friends who are looking for their long lost friend, who taught them to think differently. It featured Aamir Khan along with R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Ghajini: The movie is a remake of a Tamil film of the same name. Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, the movie revolves around Aamir’s character Sanjay who is suffering from anterograde amnesia and is on a mission to avenge the death of his girlfriend Kalpana, played by Asin.
Taare Zameen Par: This 2007 movie revolved around a dyslexic child Ishaan, played by Darsheel Safary. Aamir played Ishaan’s teacher, who helps him in his struggle in his boarding school.
Fanaa: Directed by Kunal Kohli, the movie released in theatres in 2006. It featured Kajol, Rishi Kapoor and Tabu along with Aamir. The movie revolved around a blind girl who falls in love with a tour guide who is actually a terrorist.
Rang De Basanti: Releasing on the Republic Day of 2006, the movie was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Along with Aamir, the movie also saw Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni, Sharman Joshi and Soha Ali Khan. The movie begins with a young British filmmaker who casts a group of young students in her docudrama about India’s revolution against Britis rule. Mangal Pandey: The Rising: Directed by Ketan Mehta, ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’ released in theatres in 2005. The movie is a biographical historical film based on the life of Mangal Pandey, an Indian soldier who is known for his role in the Indian Mutiny of 1857.
Dil Chahta Hai: The movie is an comedy drama, directed by Farhan Akhtar. It released in theatres in 2001 and also featured Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khann, Preity Zinta and Sonali Kulkarni along with Aamir. The movie focused on a major period of transition in the lives of three young friends. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi that year.
Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India: Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie saw Aamir with Gracy Singh. Set in the Victorian period of India's colonial British Raj, it revolved around a small village whose inhabitants, oppressed by high taxes, find themselves in an extraordinary situation as an arrogant officer challenges them to a game of cricket as a wager to avoid the taxes. It was the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
