Life of a celebrity is not an easy one, especially when you belong to the tinsel town. They are judged and criticised on every move they make. Not just that, most of the times when they need a space for themselves, they don’t get one because they are a public figure. It’s not like that they are not appreciated, but there have been incidents when they have unnecessarily become soft targets.

Pinkvilla takes a look at seven times when our tinsel town celebrities became soft targets:

Anushka Sharma cricket match: India lost against Australia at the semi-final match the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Anushka Sharma was in Sydney to support her beau Virat Kohli, however, India’s exit at the World Cup was blamed on the actress. Social networking websites were abuzz with criticism and offensive comments on the actress. This is not the first time Anushka was became the target of Virat’s poor performance on the field. The actress was earlier called a ‘distraction’ when Virat was out of form on the field in an earlier match.

Sonakshi Sinha, Deepika Padukone at AIB Roast: Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar and Arjun Kapoor’s participation in the All India Bakchod (AIB) Roast became a matter of debate. While the trio’s participation received a lot of flak, Sonakshi Sinha and Deepika Padukone were criticised for being an audience on the show. Once the video went live on YouTube, Twitter was abuzz with negative comments on the two actresses for laughing at jokes on women. We forgot that they were there to support their friends and laughed at jokes like the other 3998 people sitting in the audience. A FIR was registered against the celebs by the Pune Police accusing them of obscene behaviour in a public place.

AbRam’s sex determination controversy: While Shah Rukh Khan and his family was waiting for their child, news about a pre-natal sex determination test started doing rounds. A complaint was filed against the actor and his wife alleging that Gauri underwent a sex determination test before AbRam’s birth. The plea was rejected by the court and the news turned out to be false, but that did not stop people from criticising the superstar. In an interview, SRK had said, “I am too educated to be indulging in this non-sense. He was suffering… He was ill and people were talkingabout sex determination just because he is the child of a famous movie star… Just because he is my child, it doesn’t make him less or more than anyone else… A kid is a kid.”

Priyanka Chopra’s assistant’s death: In 2013, Priyanka Chopra was on tour of the US and Canada. Jiban Patra came on board as her assistant in the US, however, once the US leg was over, he couldn’t continue due to Visa issues. A few days later he was found dead in a hotel room. At the time, the actress was criticised for not helping his family to get his body back to India.

Kareena Kapoor Khan ‘love jihad’: Earlier this year, a campaign of reconversion by Durga Vahini was started. The organisation used a morphed photograph of Kareena, which was half covered by a niqab and the other half bearing sindoor and a bindi. The actress’ image was used as she is married to a Muslim guy and because the youth want to emulate celebrities.

Rishi Kapoor beef ban: Earlier this month, Maharashtra government had banned on the sale and possession of beef in the state. While many celebs spoke against it, it was Rishi Kapoor who landed in a controversy. The veteran actor’s tweet about exercising a personal choice and keeping religion out of meal choices and politics received a strong reaction.

Aamir Khan nude ‘PK’ poster: Aamir Khan appeared nude on the first poster of his last release ‘PK’. While it was a one-of-a-kind poster and many praised the superstar for this attempt, the poster was criticised by people for being vulgar. A case was filed against Aamir, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani accusing them of promoting nudity and vulgarity.
